One in three people are diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime and today in Britain, more than half (57 per cent) cited cancer as a major health worry.
Along with the growing uncertainty over access to some of the latest cancer drugs on the NHS, many people are choosing health insurance to put their minds at rest should they become ill.
However, the treatment for every stage of cancer is not funded by all private medical insurers and the health insurer Bupa is warning people to examine the small print of their policies so they are not disappointed when they put in for a claim. Some insurers specify time or pre-set monetary limits on funding for cancer drugs, while others offer varying levels of cover.
Consumers are also being advised by cancer charities to be aware of the detail in the range of private health insurance options available. People with health insurance were recently surveyed by Beating Bowel Cancer, and Bupa was named as the most trusted health insurer for cancer cover.
