Customers with healthy lifestyles offered lower health insurance premiums

Fri, 21 Aug 2009

The insurer Aviva is to give lower health insurance premiums to customers with healthy lifestyles .

The firm has launched a scheme, called MyHealthCounts, whereby customers with healthy lifestyles will be rewarded with a discount against their private health insurance . For those adopting the healthiest lifestyle, there will be discounts of up to 15 per cent available. For example a 60 year old male can save up to £176 per year under this scheme.

Dr Doug Wright, Head of Clinical Governance at Aviva UK Health, said "People often associate medical insurance wellness discounts with going to the gym but we recognise that everyone is different. Rather than adopting a "one size fits all approach" MyHealthCounts lets our customers choose the steps they take to improve their lifestyle, however big or small.

Also, Aviva has negotiated a discount of 66 per cent off health checks at over 600 pharmacies across the UK when booked through the MyHealthCounts system.
