Brits are thinking about getting rid of their cars and cycling to work instead, claims a new study conducted by moneysupermarket.com.
According to research from the price comparison site, a fifth of UK commuters (19 per cent) would consider cycling to save money, help the environment and improve their health .
Steve Sweeny, head of home insurance at moneysupermarket.com, is reminding cyclists that bike insurance is essential, especially as David Cameron recently had his bike stolen. He said: "With finances being squeezed, it's no surprise many would consider hopping on a bicycle to save cash . It is encouraging though to see others would consider it for the benefits to the environment, and not to mention the possibility of getting fit in the process. But insuring your bike is crucial."
Cyclists can add a bicycle onto their home contents insurance policy from £14 a year and are advised to view their options as there are several types of insurance policies available, ranging from third party to personal accident cover .
