Brits urged to cover their best items under home insurance

Fri, 27 Feb 2009

Following a survey conducted by Direct Line, which found that Brits' best items could be worth £22 billion in total, the insurer is advising customers to see whether their Sunday best is covered under their home insurance policies.

According to research from the home insurance provider, more than 80 per cent of women own items which they only bring out for special occasions and this includes clothes, shoes and silverware.

However, Francis Browning, spokesperson for Direct Line home insurance, has said that up to one-third of the people polled admitted that their items for special occasions may not be covered by their household contents policy .

She added: "Many of us have treasured items that we keep for best, whether for family tradition, special events or even to impress our friends. It is worrying that things that mean so much to people may not be covered for damage or theft."
