Travel insurer says many beach holidays booked in a rush

Wed, 01 Jul 2009

Around one-third of all beach holidays booked by holidaymakers in the UK are decided upon in a hurry, says AA Travel Insurance .

According to the insurer, factors such as the recession and low prices are making people less fussy about where and when they go on holiday and even which type of holiday they opt for. The research also revealed that men are more likely to consider and book a holiday within 24 hours, while women like to think about their options for longer.

However, holidaymakers are being urged to check that all aspects of the trip are the best for them, including the level of insurance included, says AA Travel Insurance 's chief executive Christian Young. Mr Young added: "It is important that they make sure they understand the cover they are buying and ensure they get the best option in terms of both cover and cost."

The consumer group Which? recently revealed that despite an EU ruling to the contrary, some airlines are still adding insurance automatically to the price of airline tickets.
