Brits working abroad advised to consider income protection

Thu, 18 Jun 2009

Brits who have a job abroad are being advised to measures to protect their income .

Shelter Offshore has highlighted the importance of ensuring that cover is in place in order to protect against the possibility of illness . According to the web portal, expatriates should consider options such as income protection insurance, which typically pays out half a policy holder’s salary for up to one year.

Those working overseas will find it beneficial if they are unable to work and in some cases the protection policy will also apply to redundancy .

Among the other types of protection to bear in mind are permanent health insurance, which pays out in the event of long-term illness and is in contrast to private medical insurance which is used to pay for medical care while living abroad.

An increasing number of Britons may be considering offshore jobs after the Office for National Statistics revealed that unemployment reached 2.26 million in the three months up to April this year.
