Saga Insurance is advising its customers to think twice before getting out their hand drills and make sure that their homes are adequately insured for any disasters that may occur.
According to research conducted by the insurer, 21 per cent of those aged under 50 have had to call in a professional to repair a botched DIY job. Among those aged 50 and over, 31 per cent claimed to have injured themselves while performing jobs around the house, three per cent of which had to go to hospital for treatment.
Saga Insurance executive chairman, Andrew Goodsell, said: "Homeowners should check they have accidental damage cover as part of their home insurance, just in case their DIY dreams turn in to DIY disasters."
Earlier this year, in April, a poll conducted by Sainsburys revealed that an increasing number of Brits are turning to DIY to save some money during the credit crunch .
