Post Office home insurance issues extreme weather warning

Mon, 02 Mar 2009

The Post Office has added its name to the growing list of insurance experts warning drivers and homeowners about the risk of severe weather conditions on their possessions.

The insurance provider has revealed that February recorded the worst snowfall in 18 years in the UK, as well as more than 100 flood warnings .

Both AA Insurance and Sainsburys Bank recently warned householders that winter weather can lead to burst pipes . Homeowners are being advised to take precautions to safeguard against damage.

Emma Baunach, Post Office home insurance manager, said: "Recent events highlight how important it is to have the right level of cover in place to protect both your home and your belongings. Whilst most contents policies will cover you for household items, it is essential that you know what your contents limit is and notify your insurer if you have any items that exceed this. For instance, expensive artwork and valuables are not included if they exceed the value stated in your policy."
