A survey published by Halifax home insurance indicates that the number of incidents of garden equipment theft are likely to increase as the summer approaches.
According to the insurer's claim statistics, there was a 63 per cent rise in the number of claims for garden equipment last summer, despite the fact that it rained much of the time.
Research from Halifax Home Insurance also revealed that the average cost of replacing stolen gardening equipment rose last summer to £433. Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance, said: "It is important for homeowners to bear in mind the value of items outside the home as well as inside, as the collective cost of patio furniture, barbecues and children's play equipment can soon add up."
A recent study conducted by Abbey found that the number of domestic break-ins is also likely to increase due to the ongoing recession .
