Holidaymakers are being warned that they need to take out travel insurance, even if they are travelling in the UK.
According to a number of insurers, there are an increasing number of travellers that will be choosing to spend their holidays in the UK this year and a majority of Brits will go without travel insurance because they assume that it is not required if they are staying in the UK.
The advice being given is that travel insurance is essential, especially during the current financial downturn because even though holidaymakers travelling in the UK do not need to purchase the insurance for medical reasons, flight cancellations or airline failures, they could find themselves losing more money than they would have spent on the cover if their holiday is cancelled.
According to Direct Travel Insurance, redundancy is one of the most common reasons for cancellation and without insurance, holidaymakers will be left with large cancellation charges.
