Thrill seekers who are sacrificing their trips abroad for domestic adventure holidays are being advised that they may not be covered by basic travel insurance policies .
Axa are suggesting that for experience-based holidays in the UK, which have become more popular as the recession has taken hold, travel insurance for sports and activities should be taken out. The company specifically identified activities such as zorbing, octopush, wind tunnel flying, tree canopy walking and ringos as growing in popularity.
John Dacey, spokesman for Axa, urges consumers to tell their insurer if they are planning to engage in any dangerous experiences this summer. He said: "Going on holiday is about having fun and experiencing new things. We want people to enjoy themselves doing this but at the same time take sensible precautions in case of an accident ."
Recently, All Clear claimed that consumers are invalidating their travel insurance premiums by failing to disclose important information to their providers.
