There has been a rise in the number of motorists who have been stopped by the police in a case of mistaken identity, according to the AA .
While the police check for vehicles that are on the road without a licence, an increasing number of drivers are being pulled by the authorities after its number plate recognition technology has misread their plates. As a result, it will often find that the car is not insured and this has meant that the AA experience around 20 calls a week from the police over whether or not a car is registered with them.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "I see this as encouraging because it also means that police are becoming increasingly successful at catching genuine uninsured drivers."
At the beginning of the year, the AA reported that there had been an increase in the number of claims for damage caused by potholes which had been created due to the cold weather.
