Fans of fashion fans are being advised to make sure the cost of their designer clothes is covered by adequate insurance, according to Defaqto.
The financial research company has warned people against underestimating the cost of their wardrobe as many women recently guessed that their clothes were worth £3,500, when the actual worth was £7,000. As a result, many find themselves underinsured which would leave them out of pocket if they needed to make a claim .
Mike Powell, Insurance Analyst for Defaqto said: "Always look at the detail of your insurance policy to ensure you're properly covered. Many people end up underinsured as insurance providers frequently apply specific single item limits for valuables kept in the home. In fact, 34 per cent of home contents policies available state that they have a valuables single item limit of £1,500 or less for items kept in the home."
Mr Powell added that any items worth more than £1,500 should be listed separately on the policy to ensure that full cover is given.
