Health insurer finds recession has caused an increase in stress levels

Thu, 04 Feb 2010

There has been a rise in the number of people who are suffering from stress brought on by the recession, according to Aviva Health Insurance .

Up to 23 per cent of businesses believe worries over job security have effected their employees . As a result of this, many people have been taking long breaks from work, which 16 per cent of companies believe can have a negative effect on the overall morale of other workers.

An increasing number of employers are getting involved in helping their staff back to work, with only 14 per cent of respondents thinking it is not their position to pry about conditions.

Steve Bridger, head of group risk at Aviva UK Health, said: "It is encouraging to see that some businesses are aiming to tackle workplace stress and by informing insurers of an issue means the institution can begin working with a firm to get an employee back into work."
